What are Childhood Memories?

Childhood memories are formed during childhood when one is ready to explore the world with innocence and curiosity. There are different types of childhood memories. Let me walk you through some happy and sad memories.

Childhood Memories

A. Happy memories: Joyful moments and milestones.

1. Family Vacations: Adventures and Togetherness.

Family vacations as a child are a time of bonding and discord. Families have a great time on vacation. It is a time of fun and unity. I vividly remember when my relatives came over to my house during vacations. Then, we went to eat out and went to the nearest dam in the city. We used to chit-chat and spend quality time with each other. We had a good experience. Visiting the adventure park was also a source of entertainment. The flora and fauna and the rides were truly rejuvenating. Those memories take me back to those cheerful moments that filled me with a new perspective on life.

2. Birthdays and Celebrations.

A birthday party is a special occasion for any child. It is a time when we decorate our room with birthday balloons. Children greet each other and are in a festive mood. Gifts are gestures of love. I remember unwrapping birthday gifts as a child felt special. I was in a state of jollification and excitement. Cutting birthday cakes, giving small return gifts to friends, and eating delicious snacks and food made my day.

3. Achievements and Firsts: Learning and Growth.

Getting recognition from parents gives satisfaction to every child. It provides a sense of contentment and comfort. Small achievements in school also boost a child’s self-esteem. For example, getting full marks in class tests, winning a recitation competition, getting grace marks for neat handwriting, and coming first in a racing competition always filled me with awe. All these achievements meant the world to me and were a cause for celebration. Encouragement and motivation from parents help children to reinforce these special talents. As a child when I learned to draw portraits, my teacher acknowledged it by appreciating me. This helped me to improve my drawing skills.

B. Sad Memories: Challenges and Difficult Experiences.

1. Loss and Grief: Understanding the Impact.

Children are affected by loss in a significant way. It leads to several behavioural and emotional changes in them. If such concerns are not addressed, they may lead to depression and anxiety. Children are unable to concentrate on their studies and have difficulty in socialization.  They have to deal with emotions of fear and guilt. When I was a kid, I used to have a fear of Mathematics. Solving Mathematics filled me with nervousness. Fortunately, I could deal with this phobia by taking Maths tuition from my Maths teacher. I secured 80 Percent marks in the 10th board examinations. Mathematics was no longer a terror for me.

Bullying can be physical, verbal, or emotional. It can result in psychological as well as physical harm. In it, children try to hurt others intentionally. Hitting, pushing, and threatening someone are forms of bullying. When a kid is bullied in school, he will be reluctant to go to school, may not perform well in studies, and sometimes have physical injuries. Children who are bullied may become quiet and they are often scared to interact with others. Social isolation often leads to dire consequences for many children. Due to the trend of virtual communication children have started being isolated in their rooms.

Children are sensitive and they learn from their environment. When they see their parents fighting at home, or if their parents are going through a divorce, it becomes difficult for them to face such harsh situations. When they don’t get love and care from their parents, they develop low self-esteem. Lack of communication among family members further aggravates their problem.
